JHA Employment, Training Program Celebrates Brand-new Graduates
The Authority’s Employment and Training Program commemorated 8 graduates of the program’s 2nd cohort who entered a brand-new phase of life Friday.
The event at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College in Richland Township marked a new start for the graduates, who are set to seek more education or employment in the Johnstown location, said JHA Executive Director Mike Alberts.
For the previous four months, those enrolled in the program finished courses offered by a collaboration among Penn Highlands, Johnstown Area Regional Industries and PA CareerLink.
The program consisted of courses supplied at Johnstown public real estate neighborhood spaces to eliminate participants’ transport barriers.
The curriculum consisted of conflict management, job search and interview abilities, Microsoft Word and Excel, and life skills management, as well as sightseeing tour for a robotics bootcamp and employment trips of technology-based production companies consisting of Kitron and Compass Systems.
The ceremony Friday commemorated the eight graduates of the program while acknowledging dozens more who enrolled, however chose out after discovering employment or other additional education chances along the way.

JARI Director of Workforce Development Dave Grimaldi stated members of the program’s second accomplice have advanced to more education at Penn Highlands or other area schools for certification in fields consisting of HVAC, emergency medicine and cybersecurity. The program is provided at no charge to individuals and graduated its very first accomplice in June. After Friday’s graduation, 2 more accomplices are scheduled, Grimaldi said. The program was started by former JARI Workforce Development Director Debra Balog and
PA CareerLink Cambria County site administrator Jeff Dick.”This was one of the best ideas we’ve had for finding quality workers for companies in the location,”Balog stated.”We came up with the concept of working with our public real estate units since lots of people had transportation and child care barriers that kept them from accessing resources beyond Johnstown’s public real estate.” U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Pittsburgh Field Office Director Michael Horvath said the program has helped people”
raise themselves up and get them linked. “He praised the graduates and the collaborators who made the program possible. The program has earned HUD acknowledgment as a best practice, a recognition given to one authority yearly for particularly improving the lives of its locals, Alberts said. The graduates received certificates and a standing ovation from family and friends in participation, along with Cambria County Commissioner Thomas Chernisky, Cambria Regional Chamber of Commerce President Amy Bradley and representatives from U.S. Sen. John Fetterman’s workplace. Fetterman, employment D-Pa., and employment former U.S. Sen. Bob Casey were instrumental in promoting the program, JARI President Linda Thomson said.
